Menopause is a normal stage in a woman’s aging process and typically begins around the age of 40 but sometimes can start as early as 30 years old. Menopause does not happen overnight and can last decades. In general, age 51 is the average of our menopausal patients.

When women reach their menopausal stage, their ovaries stop releasing eggs and stop producing estrogen and progesterone which results in their inability to become pregnant. The years leading up to menopause is also known as, Perimenopause.

Perimenopause or menopause transition, can begin up to 4 years before the menopause stage.  During this stage, common symptoms are hot flashes, fatigue, urine leakage, mood swings and trouble with sleep. It is also common to have irregular periods, including being very heavy or heavier than normal, more frequent and even spotting between periods.

Understanding these stages, the hormone imbalance and symptoms a woman experiences during this time can help in recognizing the signs of menopause. Many women will be able to transition into menopause with simple modifications in their:

  • Lifestyle
  • Diet
  • Nutrition

Many women worry about menopause and it’s uncomfortable symptoms but there are many ways to treat the them and stay active and strong during all stages of menopause.
