What is the importance of postpartum care?

The newborn is always the top priority, but do not forget that postpartum care is of the utmost importance when it comes to your health. Nine months of pregnancy change your body in more ways than you might have expected, and those changes do not stop after delivery. That is why postpartum care is important for every woman.

Healthy Postpartum Nutrition to prevent Postpartum Blues
Postpartum depression is an unfortunate and common experience for women that takes away from the joy that should be felt from having a new little one at home. Recent research has highlighted that specific nutrients can help prevent this occurrence completely. Our registered dietitians can help design an individualized plan utilizing diet, lifestyle, and targeted supplementation to ensure a happy and healthy postpartum period.

Should I see a pelvic floor therapist postpartum?

In Europe, the standard of care for every postpartum mom is to receive pelvic floor strengthening after she delivers a baby. The goal is to strengthen and rehabilitate the muscles of the pelvic floor thereby reducing the occurrence of postpartum incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. It will also work towards helping restore sexual function. Common postpartum problems include urinary and/or fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, sacroiliac joint instability, diastasis rectus abdominis, and core weakness.

  • Diastasis Recti is very common and occurs in 33-60% of pregnant and postpartum women
  • 60% of postpartum women reported stress urinary incontinence (SUI)
  • 64.3% of women reported sexual dysfunction in the first year following childbirth
  • 77% of women had low back pain that interfered with daily tasks

What are normal postpartum symptoms?

  • Vaginal soreness
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge
  • Nipple soreness
  • Anemia
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Uncontrolled bowel movements
  • Breastfeeding problems
  • Urination problems
